Reimagining the City, May 2018

In our April issue, Tropic announced an invitational design charrette, the goal of which is to reimagine the William Morgan-designed Federal Courthouse, now deemed obsolete for its original purpose. The group of architects we’ve chosen to participate in this exercise understand that Morgan’s Courthouse Swuare worked well pre-9/11, its trayed formation and open terraces suggesting an open, transparent democracy in built form.

Charrette Teams Announced

Reimagining the City, April 2018

In April, Tropic Magazine invited Cadence to participate in a design charrette to reimagine the U.S. Federal Building & Courthouse located in the City of Fort Lauderdale. The brutalist-style architecture and public plaza was designed by William Morgan Architects and Stresau, Smith and Stresau Landscape Architects and constructed by Henry C. Beck Company in 1979.

Landscape Architecture Day

In honor of World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) 2017 and the release of The New Landscape Declaration, the community participated in a workshop we held at our office to education and raise awareness of the breadth and depth of landscape architecture. One of the workshop stations proposed 3 days in April with significance to our profession. As a community, the date of April 30th was selected as Landscape Architecture Day, in conjunction with the last day of WLAM.

Luxury Living Late in Life

The design of Riverwalk Residences targets seniors who want independent-living apartments and others who need assisted-living apartments or special-care apartments to manage memory loss. This mix of units would allow some elderly couples to reside under one roof.

Florida Panthers Foundation

McNicol was awarded a grant by HandsOn Broward and the grant was funded by the Florida Panthers. Office personnel from the Panthers, and members of HandsOn Broward help install the plants. Cadence, Landscape Architects designed the new green space area.

A Day of Service

MLK Jr. Day of Service

Occasionally all the right components fall into place and the power of thought, patience and passion culminate in experiences worth celebrating. During this year’s MLK day of service Cadence celebrated meaningful projects in two separate locations of Broward County. Our team spent this national holiday taking the call to action seriously by doubling the impact for our community with two service projects that promoted inclusion, education, connection and exploration.
