Cadence worked with the sustainable hospitality brand, Shepherd Eco, and collaborated with architecture firm, Touzet Studio, on this eco inspired hotel located in the Wynwood neighborhood. As a former Miami industrial district, the area is now known for the murals that cover the walls and sculptural skins on the building facades. The site design proposes resilient design solutions through the fusion of architecture and landscape architecture, including; rain water collection cisterns, pervious space to accommodate seasonal storms, roof deck urban gardens, climate sensing technologies and landscape blended with the building’s urban footprint.
An open green space functions as a mid-block paseo, as well as a natural amenity space designed to intrigue users, evoke a sense of discovery, and function for various programming elements depending on the time of day and season. The garden space includes muralled art walls, a gently sloped lawn for viewing evening outdoor movies and concerts, oolitic stone outcroppings and lush canopied seating areas populated with Florida native palms and trees. The urban edges of the project blend with the existing neighborhood fabric and incorporate intentional hardscape patterning to help visually guide people through the site and provide a visually interesting design when viewed from the elevated rooms and roof decks.
