UpGifting

With the holidays upon us, thoughts of giving, spending time with family and holiday meals fill our heads. But think how much impact the holidays could have if what we choose to give has minimal impact on the environment, supports a great cause or possibly solves a problem. This holiday season, try your hand at UpGifting. These companies make sure the product you purchase has a bigger impact than just the initial happiness granted to the person that opens your gift.

Small Business Saturday

As we approach two years in business, we continue to be big supporters of our fellow Small Business Owners. So this Saturday, November 26th, join us as we participate in Small Business Saturday. Make a big impact by choosing to shop with one of your local shop owners.

PARK(ing) Day FtL 2011

How did we unpave a parking space and put up a park? Some serious sweat equity, a good game of phone tag with City officials and about $130

Behind the Scenes

We had a close friend and fellow designer call the other day to congratulate us on our recent accomplishment in Jefferson Parish. He then said “so why do you think you won?” We believe there were two primary reasons: The solution was both inclusive and digestible.

Cadence Awarded First

There won’t be any problem finding $30,000 to pay the Florida consortium that designed a playground, volunteer plaza and botanical walk as part of the winning contest entry to beautify the West Esplanade Avenue drainage canal in Metairie.

Your Environment

At Cadence, we know that every project we work on affects the lives of others. Each decision we make must be thoughtful. We’ve also found that whatever the purpose or size of the space, a few key ingredients are universal to creating meaningful spaces.

Fast Design Isn’t Good

Great design isn’t easy. It takes something out of you: time, energy, effort, creativity, and heart. But the good news is that as creative professionals we have the capacity to give all of those…and give well, creating great places and legacies that are not fast and futile, but slow and enriching for those around us.

Recycled Cards

Interested in reusing materials to recreate their purpose? So are we. A couple of months back, we began collecting our cereal boxes instead of throwing them in with the rest of the recycles here at the office. We had no idea at the time of how we would utilize them, until we began running out of thank you cards to send to our clients.

The Roux, Atlanta

So often designers speak of authenticity and experience – what does that really mean? On a recent trip to Atlanta, I covered more ground in 3 days with my valiant tour guide than I have in the last 5 visits I’d made to Hotlanta.
