Since 2019, Cadence has been actively involved with The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, serving as supporters, board and committee members, and workshop facilitators. The Florida Wildlife Corridor spans 18 million acres of contiguous wilderness and working lands, critical to the survival of 131 imperiled species in Florida. Beyond wildlife protection, conserving these wild spaces plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change, as natural landscapes significantly reduce greenhouse gases and buffer against rising temperatures. After years of effort, the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act was signed into law on June 29, 2021, following unanimous bipartisan support in the Florida legislature.
Following discussions at the first Corridor Connect Summit in 2022, Cadence has been collaborating with environmental scientists and sustainable development leaders to help shape the Corridor Compatible Communities (CCC) design guidelines. This evolving framework seeks to align conservation goals with ongoing population growth by promoting inclusive, adaptable strategies. In 2023, during working sessions facilitated by Cadence at the Corridor Connect Summit, field experts reviewed and provided feedback on the first draft. The insights gathered have been pivotal in advancing the CCC initiative, with 60 new members joining the effort in 2024 to help further eatablish a sustainable future for Florida’s landscapes.
Building on its earlier work with the CCC working group, Cadence is now leading the CCC Design Guidelines into a Beta launch of Version 1 of the document, which launched at the 2025 Corridor Connect summit in Orlando. This update incorporates the feedback from the 2023 Corridor Connect sessions and technical advisors, while also improving the document with enhanced graphic design elements for ease of use. This version will continue through technical review sessions with key stakeholders in biology, conservation, ecology, planning, development and design.
