Located on Singer Island, the eastern most point of the State of the Florida, the Amrit Wellness Resort is poised to be the signature development on the peninsula. Drawing upon original Native American settler context, early 20th century Signer family history, Hindu cultural tales of the ‘Elixir of Life’ and natural patterns and tones of this coastal location, a unique landscape architectural theme has emerged. Native palms and tropical hardwoods resilient to the coastal conditions of salt spray and wind will be paired with a primarily native understory to comprise the vegetation palette on site. Aromatic plants, including the Rainbow Eucalyptus, Bay Rum, and Bay Cedar to name a few, arouse the senses to create a powerful blend with the salty scent of the sea. Monolithic oolitic outcrops are interspersed with the understory vegetation, harkening the tale of Vishnu’s transformation into a turtle with a mountain atop his shell. The arrival court’s water features represent residence’s and guests’ access to the churning waters of the Atlantic Ocean – lagoons where Amrit can be withdrawn. As a tribute to the significance of the turtle both in the tale of gathering Amrit and the local presence of this magical sea creature, an abstract shell paving pattern is gently visible across the arrival court. Through this strong association with culture, history, and healing attributes of nature, biomimicry is alive throughout the design.
