Cadence provided design services for this 1960’s era condo tower’s 25,000SF roof deck renovation. The design divides the vast roof top deck into three distinct areas: an intracoastal pool deck, a coastal grass focused terrace and an ocean front terrace with fitness amenities adjacent to the existing gym facility. Cadence utilized the existing pool structure location to create a resort like pool deck which includes both pool lounger and table top seating options. A new restroom/storage structure was added to the deck, connected to a custom designed trellis and covered grill structure. Glass railings were proposed to improve views to the ocean. Raised planters and a hardscape materials were utilized to define smaller spaces within the deck layout, as well as provide attractive design patterns and views for residences viewing from above. All plants selected were salt and wind tolerant coastal plantings to handle the harsh conditions of the roof top’s existence. Creeping vines covering the existing trellis structure, a new pool grill trellis and umbrellas were provided to offer several options for shade while enjoying the roof deck.
Cadence also collaborated with local artist Henning Haupt to provide an enlivened color scheme to the dated facade. The color studies provided the residents options from a predetermined color palette, in turn producing a randomized facade pattern.
