Start Something That Matters
We want YOU to help US start something that matters. What is ONE thing that every person has? TIME. Each and everyone of us has 24 hours every day. But what we choose to do with that time, is what really matters.
Here’s the challenge: Over the next two weeks, carve out two hours of your routine. The first hour: Do something for yourself that matters (spend extra time with your kids, take a class or spend an extra hour exercising) The second hour: Do something that matters for someone else (help your neighbor with chores, volunteer at the humane society or share your time with those in need)
When you are done with your two hours, share your story with us here.Tell us what you did, how it mattered and how it made you feel. Get creative, see how far you can make One for One work with your idea. Pictures or videos are welcome. We’ll review each post and the person with the most creative use of their take one hour, give one hour wins a hard copy of Start Something That Matters.
What are the rules?
- Keep it simple and fun. And remember creativity counts.

Why is Cadence doing this and how does it matter?
Blake and his team chose us for the Books for Bloggers Program and charged us with the task of hosting a creative contest. We believe in and are inspired by the One for One model. It’s about both give and take, not just take. Let’s work together to change the way we do something that matters.
We can only do this with your help. So join us to make a big impact, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Hey U’s. Following up with you on your ‘Start Something That Matters’ project. I have been able to start exercising a little more during the week. Last fall I began to help @ GREAT, a local equine training, exercising, teaching group that focuses on working with the physically challenged. The new year for GREAT’s sessions start Feb. 17. I hope to be able to help, some. Although my work keeps me busy during the week, I am doing more exercising.
Thanks and keep up the good Work!!!!

It’s just how I roll….
First I would like to say a few things about Gage and Rebecca. Obviously, I am related to Rebecca and we always have to love what family is doing. From a business point of view, we have been able to collaborate on some projects and it has been a privilege to be able to work with like-minded people and with people who really want to inspire others to be better.
On to the challenge….
Hour 1 turned into 6 hours (The first hour: Do something for yourself that matters) Recently my lovely wife Katie and I bought a house in Baton Rouge, LA. We have been looking for a place that we can truly be happy and most importantly raise a family in. Well, we have waited patiently for 2 years and found a diamond in the ruff (in our eyes). In others eyes you might say tons of renovations need to be done inside and out. We love a challenge!! So I started on the outside yesterday. I do need to note that I run a Design + Build Landscape Design Company in Baton Rouge so I have access to fun equipment like Bobcats, Dump Trailers, and endless amounts of Labor. Being more in the Design day to day operations, I am usually drawing, managing projects, etc… all of which are done from the office. Yesterday, I worked hand in hand with my installation crew and it was great. This is not the first time I have worked with the crew, but since it was at my own house it truly meant a lot to me that these guys would come and help me on their Saturday.
Hour 2 turned into 2 hours (The second hour: Do something that matters for someone else) – Seeing that my crew gets paid hourly, my company will pay them their normal rate for yesterday and I paid each of them separately out of my pocket. They were not aware of this so it was an extra bonus for them. I also got them a bang up breakfast and tons of lunch. For me the most important thing of the entire day is realizing that most people in this life just need a little “kind” direction and it’s amazing what people will do for you. Bottom line is be kind to others. This may not sound like a lot but to these guys it means everything. I do need to add it also helps when the guy in charge busts his A%& with the crew all day!!
Some more thoughts on the challenge….
As I started reflecting on my day and objective of this project, I realized that I was participating for many more reasons. About 3 years ago, I made a decision to live my life differently than I was currently doing so. I learned along the way and through suggestions, that listening to other people’s stories and journeys were the key to my survival and also the key to living a normal life. By normal, I mean the way “god”, “my higher power”, or the laws of the universe intended. Over time, I realized that I had a story to share as well. I think this contest is a way for the followers to share and “listen” to others journeys. Maybe we owe ourselves and others this time…to reflect, to listen, and to share the good in our lives.
Thank You Cadence! Talk at ya soon
