Why Revel on the Block matters to Cadence

As the clock ticks down to the 2nd Revel on the Block, here’s a few fun facts to explain why this event matters to us.

1. ROTB was born from the community’s positive reaction to Better Block FTL. We listened.

After the June 16th, 2012 debut of Better Block FTL, we were so enlightened by the community’s reaction. The amount of people, businesses and neighbors looking for a venue to connect with other creative people was overwhelming. So with the help of our fellow organizers, loads of collaborators and the backing of FAT Village Arts District, Revel on the Block was created.

2. It gives us a chance to work with our friends (C&I Studios and helium creative).

Nothing beats working with people you enjoy. When all of our talents collide, the outcome is a bona fide production. Our group effort is rooted in community design, thoughtful content and deep passion, we hope you can feel it.

3. Our urban design, graphic design, and project coordination skills are flexed to benefit our own neighborhood.

For over a decade, we’ve been practicing the profession of Landscape Architecture, diligently crafting spaces and designing experiences. The same skills and professional experience we provide our clients with are used to plan, design and organize this event. What we may provide a hotel, a streetscape, a campus or a private garden is brought to our own neighborhood on this day twice a year. Creative space design, graphic communications that captures a story, careful curation of participants, and constant communication to execute the logistics of this day log event are all on display for our neighbors to enjoy.

4. We connect with the best people Fort Lauderdale has to offer.

This might be our favorite part, organizing this event has connected us with some of the brightest and most creative people. The list includes artists, musicians, residents, students, city officials and businesses owners – all looking to bring new experiences and connect our community. ROTB is the perfect venue for these connections to happen.

5. New projects come to life, businesses grow and neighbors are inspired.

One short year ago most of Fort Lauderdale hadn’t seen the use of pop-up shops and only a small dedicated crowd believed in the potential of Flagler Village. In addition, a community that had spent years nurturing artists in FATVillage and believing in the potential of downtown living has grown and inspired more people to care about their own neighborhoods, as well as the future of downtown Fort Lauderdale.

A community amenity, Flagler Garden, is slated to start construction in the Fall of 2013. Many pop up vendors have become successful cart vendors or have opened brick and mortar stores in our community, and a neighborhood that has always made the artist an important feature – is now becoming its very own Fort Lauderdale destination.

If you came out to Revel on the Block in January – thank you. For this upcoming event, we have new vendors, musicians, exhibits and art to introduce to you. If you haven’t added Revel on the Block to your calendar, make a note. We’ll see you July 27th! 2pm-11pm

Lastly, we’d like to thank each and everyone one of you that has attended, or participated as an artist or vendor sharing your talents with us. Especially those of you who believed in this effort from the beginning. And a big thank you to our sponsors and volunteers who have stepped forward this year. Together, all of you have made this happen!
